Banshee's Veil

Banshee's Veil combines AP with a spell shield: the first enemy spell is absorbed, neutralizing picks from the likes of Morgana, Blitzcrank, or Syndra.

Against a comp that wins by catching ONE player, the shield is worth more than its stats: the enemy engage must break it first, giving you time to answer. Buy it in reaction to a fed AP mid or a pick comp, rarely preemptively.

The magic-defense counterpart to Zhonya's: Hourglass against AD burst, Banshee against magic burst and hooks.
