E reduces its cooldown on hit, allowing for more dashes.

Lightslinger (passive): each ability cast = double shot (second auto-attack bonus). Chain an auto-attack after EVERY ability to trigger the double shot. This is the main source of DPS.
Relentless Pursuit (E): Each hit from Lightslinger (double shot) reduces E’s cooldown by 1s (×2 against champions). In active combat, E can be re-used quickly.
Ardent Blaze (W): Marks targets and grants Lucian movement speed if he hits them afterwards. Use before R for the speed boost, which helps you keep up with enemies.
Piercing Light (Q): fires in a straight line. Align it with minions to hit a champion behind them.
The Culling (R): channel — Lucian can move whilst casting R but cannot use other abilities. Can be interrupted by CC.

Don’t use AA after every ability — you’ll lose the passive double shot.
Use R in close combat rather than from a safe distance — R can be interrupted by CC.
Don’t waste E without a battle plan — E is also your escape move.

Lightslinger’s double shot triggers on-hit effects twice — synergises with on-hit items.
E resets in combat — Lucian can dash much more often than it seems.
W movement speed + R = mobile during his ultimate, difficult to stop.

Lucian is generally played as ADC. The first objective is to aggressive trades + jungle ganks. Its biggest edge comes from huge burst in early/mid.

Lucian takes over in mid game: roams with jungler/support.

Lucian can be punished when short range for an adc. A practical answer listed here is: Play long range (Cait, Varus) to keep it out.
