The fundamental combo: dash towards the enemy with Headbutt and immediately cast Pulverise during the animation to interrupt the knockback and turn it into a knock-up. Critical timing: press Q just as Alistar is about to collide with the enemy.

Flash into an ideal position, cast Pulverize instantly, then use Headbutt to push the enemy towards your team.

Mechanical Tips

  • W+Q timing: press Q exactly as Alistar is about to collide — neither before (Q hits the ground) nor after (normal knockback instead of knock-up). Practise in custom games.
  • Headbutt against turrets: W can be used against turrets for gap-closing and damage — useful for quickly closing the distance to an enemy under a turret.
  • Headbutt direction: Alistar must be behind the enemy to knock them back towards his team — position yourself correctly before casting W.
  • Unbreakable Will (R): Activate when under CC or when taking heavy damage — it removes CC and provides massive damage reduction.

Common Mistakes

  • Casting Q before or after the W animation (result: normal knockback or Pulverize into thin air).
  • Poor positioning before W — remember that the direction of the knockback is opposite to Alistar’s position.
  • Using R too late after having already taken most of the damage.

Notable Interactions

  • W can be used on enemy turrets to deal damage and close the gap.
  • Trample stacks grant a bonus stun via auto-attacks — combo with the W+Q knock-up for a prolonged CC chain.
  • Alistar is one of the most resilient supports in the late game thanks to R — he is virtually invincible for 7 seconds.
