Mechanical Tips

  • Thundering Smash (1) CC pause: if Volibear is immobilised (stun, root) BEFORE stunning a target with 1, the duration of 1 is paused — the stun will still be available once the enemy’s CC has ended
  • Sky Splitter (3) guaranteed to hit on stun: Ability 3 may miss moving targets, but if the target is stunned by Ability 1’s auto-attack, Ability 3 is guaranteed to hit — sequence Ability 1 → auto-attack (stun) → Ability 3 for the guaranteed hit
  • Stormbringer (Ult) tower disable: the ultimate disables nearby towers for 3s — diving under a tower with the ultimate is one of the game’s few tower-disable mechanics
  • The Relentless Storm (passive): each ability grants an AS stack, and at 5 stacks, auto-attacks unleash an AoE lightning strike — maintain a steady rhythm of abilities to maximise lightning procs

Common Mistakes

  • Thundering Smash too early: Level 1 grants speed towards enemies — use it for chasing, but activating it when the enemy is already adjacent wastes the speed boost
  • Stormbringer in open terrain: the ultimate is more valuable for tower dives than as an engage across the map — without a tower to disable, the ultimate is merely a knock-up
  • Frenzied Maul without a mark: Ability 2 only heals if the target is marked by Ability 2’s passive — always auto-attack the target first to apply the mark, then use Ability 2 for the maximum heal

Notable Interactions

  • Stormbringer (Ult) can be combined with Flash for a surprise engage from the bushes — Flash under the enemy tower, then use the Ult to disable the enemy
  • The Relentless Storm (passive) synergises with Blade of the Ruined King and attack speed items for prolonged teamfights
  • Volibear is strong against poke compositions as Frenzied Maul (2) can sustain his HP through repeated heals

FAQ

How should I play Volibear in Wild Rift?

Volibear is generally played as Top. The first objective is to controlled push, short trades and dive threats with jungler. Its biggest edge comes from extremely reliable dives thanks to r, which deactivates turrets.

When is Volibear strongest?

Volibear takes over in mid game: tp utility for objectives; build tanky to force the front line.

How do I punish Volibear?

Volibear can be punished when kite and anti-tank (vayne, remote mages) greatly reduce their impact. A practical answer listed here is: Against Fiora/Camille, don't reveal W's timing: vary your cadence to avoid being parried/hooked.
