Malignance

Malignance is the item for champions whose ultimate IS the game plan: reduced ult cooldown plus a burn zone attached to every ultimate you land.

Its math is simple: the faster your ultimate returns and the more targets it hits, the more the item pays. A Vel'Koz or Lux ulting twice per fight extracts massive hidden DPS; a mage with a utility ult gets almost nothing.

The natural first item for ult-centric mages, in direct competition with Luden's — the question is always: is my ult worth more than my combo?
