§ 01 — Editorial brief

Expert note

Expert take

Thresh is more of a decision-making champion than a pure mechanical champion. Yes, landing hook matters, but the difference between an average Thresh and a very good one mostly appears in the five seconds before the spell: where he hides, who he protects with lantern, which dash he waits for with Flay, and whether his team can truly follow. He is excellent for players who like controlling the invisible rhythm of a game, preparing objectives, and giving their carry unusual aggression windows. He becomes much less interesting if you only want simple frontal engage or a support that forgives bad timing.

Weak point

Hidden weakness

Thresh’s hidden weakness is not only missing hook: it is being forced to choose too early which role he plays in the fight. If he engages, he may lack lantern to save his carry. If he saves everything for peel, he may let the enemy enter river for free. Good opponents do not always try to dodge hook; they force Thresh to use the wrong tool at the wrong time, then punish the cooldown.

§ 02 — Strengths & weaknesses Thresh Wild Rift strengths and weaknesses

↑ Strengths
  • He heavily punishes positioning mistakes around objectives, especially when he can play from fog of war instead of from a visible lane state.
  • His lantern gives immobile carries a rare safety margin: they can step forward to deal damage, then be repositioned without losing the whole fight.
  • His Flay keeps huge value against champions that rely on dashes to enter: when saved properly, it is often worth more than a hook thrown too early.
  • With Zeke’s Convergence and Knight’s Vow, his engages and rescues become more rewarding without turning Thresh into a pure frontline tank.
↓ Weaknesses
  • Avoid him if your team has no quick follow-up: an isolated hook is not enough if nobody can convert the opening before the target escapes.
  • Avoid him into drafts that easily neutralize the first crowd control, especially if you must engage frontally without fog angles or vision pressure.
  • Avoid him if your ADC only wants to play a passive lane without threatening anything: Thresh loses a lot when his presence forces no enemy decision.
  • Avoid him if the enemy team can constantly force your lantern defensively before objectives, because you then lose your strongest tempo tool.

§ 05 — Recommended buildBest Thresh Wild Rift build for the current patch

Thresh remains a very high-value support when the game is decided through vision control, river angles, and the ability to convert one enemy mistake into an objective. He is not only a hook champion: his real strength comes from combining catch threat, defensive lantern, Flay interruption, and space control through The Box. In the current patch, he mostly rewards players who can switch between engage and peel depending on the state of the fight. In solo queue, he shines when enemies contest dark areas poorly or walk forward without respecting fog of war. However, he becomes less reliable if his team expects constant frontal engage into drafts that can block, dodge, or punish his hook.

Jinx
Ideal
Jinx
Thresh gives Jinx exactly what she wants: a true engage trigger, peel when needed, and targets locked down long enough to place Flame Chompers! cleanly. The ideal execution starts with Death Sentence or Flay, then Jinx seals the exit with traps while Thresh decides whether to continue the engage or save the counterplay angle with Lantern. This pairing is very strong against fragile lanes and remains excellent in teamfights thanks to the safety the support provides.
Draven
Ideal
Draven
With Draven, Thresh forms one of the cleanest snowball duos in bot lane thanks to constant hook threat and the brutality of the follow-up burst. The execution is crystal clear: Thresh catches or forces flash, Draven instantly walks up to stack empowered autos, then Lantern enables chase or disengage after the kill. This pair excels against lanes with no cleanse and no real answer to the first contact.
Aphelios
Strong
Aphelios
Thresh protects Aphelios extremely well because he offers both credible engage and rescue tools against threats trying to punish him. The execution is flexible: hook to create the first opening, lantern to fix a risky position, then Flay or The Box to stop assassins from finishing the job. It is a very robust synergy in games where the ADC must be protected without fully giving up pick threat.
Viego
Strong
Viego
Thresh sets up Viego's resets perfectly by making the first target far easier to reach and finish. The execution revolves around the initial opening: hook or Flay locks the target down, Viego follows with burst onto the already exposed victim, then Lantern can even pull him back out after the first reset. This pair is very strong against fragile comps where one pick can decide the whole fight.

2 E E

§ 08 — DialoguesThresh Wild Rift FAQ

Q.01 Is Thresh a good blind pick support? +

Thresh can be blind picked if your team accepts that he may play peel instead of engage. He has enough tools to survive many drafts, but he dislikes games where his hook is constantly blocked and lantern is forced defensively before every objective. The right approach is to blind him when you can create pressure through vision and your carry truly benefits from lantern.

Q.02 Should Thresh always engage with hook? +

No. Hook is often stronger as a threat than as a spell used immediately. If the enemy knows Death Sentence is available, they must change their pathing, respect walls, and slow their river entry. In many fights, Thresh should first save Flay to stop a dash or place lantern to secure his carry, then look for hook once the target has less space.

Q.03 Why is Thresh lantern so important? +

Lantern changes the real distance your team can play from. An immobile carry can step forward to hit a wave, DPS an objective, or punish a target because they know an exit exists. But it must be placed before panic starts. A late lantern often loses value, especially if the enemy zones the click or forces the carry to Flash before using it.

Q.04 When should Thresh play peel instead of engage? +

Thresh should play peel when the enemy threat comes from a fast engage onto his carry. In that case, using Flay to interrupt the dash, placing lantern early, and dropping The Box between the enemy frontline and your DPS is worth more than an aggressive hook. If your carry is the win condition, your job is not to find the first target: it is to stop the enemy from reaching the right one.
