Hwei Wild Rift Synergies

Hwei shines with engagers that immobilize, such as Jarvan IV, Amumu or Malphite: an immobilized target makes Severing Bolt (QW) far deadlier. As a Support, he forms a very long-range poke lane with Varus, Jhin or Ezreal, thanks to the root from Gaze of the Abyss (EW). Crushing Maw (EE) and his ultimate keep enemies grouped for his allies' area damage. Serenity (W) also gives his teammates movement speed and a shield.

Hwei Wild Rift Synergies

S Tier 2
Jarvan IV Jarvan IV Jarvan IV solves Hwei's main problem: all of his damage spells are skillshots or delayed zones. The Standard + Dragon Strike combo knocks the target up, and an immobilized target turns QW (Severing Bolt) into an execute based on missing health. Cataclysm then traps the group in an arena where QE and R can no longer be dodged. EngageJungle

Amumu Amumu Amumu gives Hwei exactly what he wants in teamfights: several immobile enemies in the same spot. During the stun from Curse of the Sad Mummy, EE (Crushing Maw) or QE (Molten Fissure) cover the whole clump, then R attaches to one target and slows everyone who stays in the zone more and more. Two different spells on the same target also trigger the passive. CC ChainJungle

A Tier 2
Malphite Malphite Unstoppable Force launches several enemies into the air, and Hwei, who has no mobility, does not need to step forward to exploit it. Very long-range QW punishes the airborne carry, then R in the middle of the group slows anyone trying to walk out. It sits one step below S tier because Malphite only engages on one timing per fight. Vi Vi Vi picks her target and isolates it with Cease and Desist, which opens both bonus conditions of QW: a lone target and an immobilized target. Hwei follows from range and adds a second, different spell to trigger his passive. The duo is very strong for picks, less so in grouped fights. DiveJungle

B Tier 1
Wukong Wukong Cyclone knocks up several targets, giving Hwei a window for QE and R. The combo requires Hwei to already be in range when the engage starts, because Wukong goes in fast and Hwei cannot catch up to the fight without a dash. Fine in teamfights, less reliable than Jarvan IV or Amumu. EngageJungle

How to draft around this champion

Synergy angle

Hwei’s synergies rest on a simple idea: anything that immobilizes an enemy makes his kit stronger. QW deals far more damage to an immobilized target, R slows a target that cannot escape more and more, and QE punishes those who stay in its zone. His best allies create the immobilization; he turns it into damage.

Patch context

Hwei works best with engagers who group or lock enemies down — Jarvan IV, Amumu, Malphite — and with a frontline that gives him time to place QE and R. In return, he brings what those compositions often lack: waveclear, vision from EW and a WW shield for the backline. He is less comfortable in compositions that constantly fight in the fog of war, where his zones have no corridor to control.

Draft identity

Hwei is a crowd-control converter: he turns every allied lockdown into massive damage, and every narrow passage into a no-go zone.

Quick read

  • Excellent with engagers who immobilize.
  • Needs a frontline to place his zones.
  • Brings waveclear, vision and a shield to the team.

Best composition types

Area engage

These engagers group or lock several enemies in one spot. Hwei then chains QE and R on a team that cannot leave the zone, and a QW on the immobilized target finishes the job.

How to play it. Place EW and QE at the objective entrance before the engage, wait for your ally to go in, then cast R on the caught target.

Siege and objective control

These champions also want to fight at range and in enclosed spaces. Their control or range complements QE’s corridors, and Hwei clears waves quickly enough to keep priority before every objective.

How to play it. Push the mid wave, arrive first at the objective and poke with QQ and QW while the enemy has to cross the zone.

Composition traps

Compositions without a frontline

With nobody holding space, Hwei becomes the closest and easiest target to reach, with no dash to get out.

Full jungle-skirmish compositions

Fast, scattered fights leave no corridor to control: QE and R lose their zone value.

Priority synergies

Jarvan IV

Jarvan IV’s Cataclysm locks enemies exactly where Hwei wants them: in an enclosed zone where QE burns, R slows harder and harder and the trapped target eats an empowered QW. It is the most natural pairing to turn an engage into a won teamfight.

Common mistakes

Common mistakes

  • Casting R before your ally’s engage has immobilized anyone.
  • Wasting QW on a free target when an allied CC is coming.
  • Forgetting the WW shield for the backline during the engage.
  • Following the engage into melee range instead of staying behind the frontline.

Coach notes

  • Tell your engager where your zones are: he must push enemies into them, not beside them.
  • Your most profitable QW is always the one that follows an allied CC.

What these duos unlock

Hwei performs best when allies extend the first window of control or damage. The strongest pairings on this page, such as Jarvan IV, Amumu, Malphite, create cleaner fights and more reliable tempo swings.

Profile to look for

Hwei has a mage profile, so allies with Engage, CC Chain are usually the best fit. You often get the most value from partners played in Jungle, Top.

When synergy matters most

These pairings matter most around first engage timing, objective setup, and follow-up on crowd control. The page is not just naming allies: it highlights combinations that reduce execution risk for Hwei.

FAQ

Which champions does Hwei work best with?

With engagers who immobilize or group enemies: Jarvan IV, Amumu, Malphite. Their crowd control makes QW, QE and R much easier to land and far more dangerous.

Why does Hwei need a frontline?

Because he has no dash or blink. His zones need a few seconds to take effect, and with nobody in front of him, enemies reach him before QE or R have done their job.

Can Hwei carry on his own?

He can take an advantage through poke and EW → QW picks, but his real impact comes from grouped fights around objectives. Without a team playing around his zones, he remains a fragile mage.

Which jungler should you pick with Hwei mid?

A jungler who engages and immobilizes, such as Jarvan IV or Amumu. He makes your combos reliable, protects your lane against enemy roams and turns every objective into a zone where your spells no longer miss.
