§ 01 — Editorial brief

Janna remains a cornerstone of peel in solo queue, but her value heavily depends on how fights are structured around her.

By WRC Studio ~ 2 min read Patch 7.2a

Janna is an enchanter support in Wild Rift, a living storm specializing in disengage and protecting her ADC against all enemy engages. Her kit combines a slow-charging tornado, a buffing shield amplifying her carry's damage, an AoE slow, and a knockback ultimate breaking all ongoing engages. She excels in protect-the-carry compositions seeking to secure a hyper-carry ADC in prolonged trades. In Wild Rift, her healing and knockback ultimate can nullify the most complex engages, making her the nightmare of aggressive all-in compositions.

Janna excels in compositions looking to protect a carry or disengage enemy all-ins. She benefits from high-DPS ADCs who thrive with extended survival. Hyper-carry compositions get the maximum from her shields and slows.

Janna is exposed against compositions with instant engage or burst that don't give her time to react with her disengage. Champions who can target her first or bypass her shields reduce her utility. Compositions with constant pressure drain her protection resources.

With Janna, anticipate enemy engage to place your tornado at the right moment. Distribute your shields primarily on your carry before fights. Your ultimate can turn a teamfight by repelling a grouped engage — but use it at the right moment.

Expert note

Expert take

Janna is a champion of discipline and reading. She does not reward raw aggression, but precision. She is ideal for players who can anticipate enemy intentions and play around fight tempo. Misused, she feels useless. Used correctly, she makes some fights almost impossible to lose. She is a total control pick, but only in the right hands.

Weak point

Hidden weakness

Janna’s real weakness is not her lack of damage, but her reliance on perfect timing. One mistake — a poorly timed tornado or ultimate used without real threat — creates a window where her team has no defensive tools left. Unlike other supports, she cannot recover from misused abilities.

§ 02 — Strengths & weaknesses Janna Wild Rift strengths and weaknesses

↑ Strengths

  • Strongly amplifies hypercarries with her buffs and shield.
  • Very strong at objective defense thanks to her zone control.
  • Able to turn a losing fight around with a well-used Monsoon.
↓ Weaknesses

§ 07b — Advanced MechanicsJanna: combos & tips Wild Rift

Defensive peel combo
1 W W
2 Q Q
3 E E

Slow the attacker, knock them up to interrupt them, shield the carry.

Flash engage from behind combo
1 Flash Flash
2 R R

Flash behind the enemy group, use Monsoon to knock them back towards your team or under the tower.

Lane poke combo
1 W W
2 AA

Zephyr slows the enemy; auto-attacks capitalise on the slow to trigger the bonus damage.

Howling Gale charge combo
1 Q Q
2 release
3 Q Q

Charge up Howling Gale in a bush, then release it towards the enemies for a surprise knock-up. The more you charge it, the more damage and knock-up it deals.

Mechanical Tips

  • Howling Gale (Q): Hold to charge. The more you charge, the greater the damage and the longer the knock-up duration. Can be cast by holding the button and releasing it when ready. Useful for interrupting channeling spells.
  • Zephyr (W): passive movement speed bonus, active projectile slow. The passive is always active — Janna is naturally faster.
  • Eye of the Storm (E): shield on an ally + temporary AD bonus. Can be cast on turrets — very effective turret defence.
  • Monsoon (R): continuous heal + constant knockback of nearby enemies. Use to separate engaging enemies or for ultimate peeling. Can interrupt ultimates.
  • Tailwind Passive: allies near Janna gain a movement speed bonus.

Common Mistakes

  • Using Monsoon at the wrong time — R can separate allies who are about to finish off a kill.
  • Not holding Q for long enough — the knock-up is less effective.
  • Forgetting to use E on the turret when diving — the AD shield helps the turret.

Notable Interactions

  • E can be cast on allied turrets to protect them from dives.
  • R can interrupt enemy channeled abilities (Fiddlesticks’ R, Katarina’s R) if timed correctly.
  • Janna is one of the best defensive champions for protecting an ADC in lane and in teamfights.

§ 08 — DialoguesJanna Wild Rift FAQ

Q.01 Is Janna a good blind pick? +

Janna can be a good blind pick only if your team already has a clear direction around a carry or defensive playstyle. Otherwise, she may lack impact as she does not create plays. She heavily depends on draft structure.

Q.02 When should you use Monsoon? +

Monsoon should be used to break an engage or save a critical situation. Using it too early or without real pressure greatly reduces its value. The best timing is usually after the enemy commits, not before.

Q.03 Can Janna play aggressively? +

Janna can be aggressive through Q zoning and the pressure she creates, but she remains a defensive champion. Her aggression comes from space control, not direct engage.

Q.04 Why do I lose with Janna despite good stats? +

Because her impact is not measured by stats alone. One bad key decision can cost an entire fight. Janna requires perfect decisions at critical moments, not just good numbers.
