§ 01 — Editorial brief

Master Yi remains one of the most polarized soloQ picks: he either takes over the game or becomes nearly irrelevant.

By Updated 8 Sept 2026 Patch 7.2d

Master Yi is a Jungle carry fighter in Wild Rift, a wuju master specializing in extreme sustained DPS and teamfight clean-ups through ability resets. His kit exploits true damage via Wuju Style, a temporary invulnerability meditation, and a Highlander ultimate negating slow effects and enabling unlimited resets. He excels in compositions offering mass CC that leave weakened targets for him to clean up. In Wild Rift, his Alpha Strike resets on kills allow chaining eliminations at a speed exceeding the response capacity of unprepared compositions.

Master Yi excels in compositions offering speed or attack buffs that amplify his clean-up phase. He benefits from allies who handle initial engagements and leave him only weakened targets. Reverse peel compositions — that protect Yi rather than initiate — maximize his carry potential.

Master Yi is heavily countered by chained CC compositions that interrupt his meditate and prevent him from advancing. Champions who can repeatedly slow or immobilize him neutralize his ultimate. Good vision and grouped play drastically reduce his pick opportunities.

With Master Yi, wait for enemy CC to be used before engaging — entering too early is the most common mistake. Use Alpha Strike to pass through obstacles and make repositioning unpredictable. In teamfights, your target is the most exposed carry, not the first visible enemy.

Burst combo

3 E E
4 AA
5 AA

Alpha Strike to close the gap whilst remaining untargetable, auto-attack to trigger the Double Strike passive, E for true damage on hit.

All-in combo
1 E E
2 Q Q
3 AA
4 AA
5 AA
6 R R

Activate E before Q so that Wuju Style is already active upon arrival.

Gank chase combo
1 R R
2 Q Q
3 AA
4 E E
5 AA

R for movement speed and slow immunity, Q to close the gap, full burst.

Teamfight reset combo
1 Q Q
2 AA
3 Q Q

Highlander reset on kill, Q to chain targets.

Mechanical Tips

  • Alpha Strike (Q): Makes Yi untargetable for the duration. Use to dodge critical CC (Blitzcrank’s Q, Lux’s Q). Always time Q to counter incoming CC.
  • Double Strike (passive): every 7th auto-attack = double strike. Chain auto-attacks to trigger this regularly.
  • Wuju Style (E): true damage on hits. Activate before engaging to have the buff immediately when the fight begins.
  • Meditate (W): massive HP regeneration + damage reduction whilst channelling. Use when incoming damage is high, but not to dodge instant burst damage.
  • Highlander (R): immunity to slows + massive attack/movement speed. Resets on a kill or assist. In teamfights, make sure to kill a target to trigger the reset and then continue.

Common Mistakes

  • Don’t use Q to dodge crowd control — Alpha Strike is your main means of survival.
  • Activating R too late in the fight — activate R to initiate, not as a reaction.
  • Initiating without Wuju Style active — you’ll lose all your true damage.

Notable Interactions

  • Q can dodge ultimates (Caitlyn’s R, Varus’s R) if timed correctly.
  • Highlander reset = potential for a cascade of kills.
  • Master Yi is heavily countered by CC — always use Q to dodge.

§ 08 — DialoguesMaster Yi Wild Rift FAQ

Q.01 When should you engage as Master Yi? +

You should almost never be the first to enter. Wait for enemy CC to be used, then enter to secure a quick kill and trigger Highlander.

Q.02 Why do I always get CC’d? +

Because you engage too early. Yi is extremely vulnerable on direct entry. You need to wait for enemy mistakes, not force them.

Q.03 What is his role in teamfights? +

He is a finisher. He cleans up fights once enemy resources are spent.

Q.04 Can he engage? +

Very rarely. Engaging with Yi is usually a mistake unless in very specific situations.
